How to sound like a confident professional

by Kyra Kudick via Memphis Business Journal

You might look the part, and your message might be exactly on point, but if you don’t sound like a confident professional, your message will be misunderstood or ignored.

So, the next time you are preparing for a presentation, or maybe just headed out of town on vacation and setting up your out-of-office message, take the time to listen to a recording of your own voice and consider it from the perspective of how others hear you.

The Highest Paying Jobs in America Based On LinkedIn Salary Data

Our recipients are often young men preparing to attend college or preparing to enter the workforce for the first time. With that in mind, we wanted to share this article from LinkedIn, which lists the highest paying jobs in the US right now. Men, if you are unsure of what field you want to go into, this list may inspire you!

The diagnosis is in: healthcare careers top the list of jobs with the highest base salary in the U.S., according to LinkedIn Salary.

It’s 2017. You may be thinking about making a career move or getting that salary bump you’ve always wanted. Well, you’re not alone. 90% of professionals around the world are open to new job opportunities.

To help you figure out your next career move, we’ve put together this list of the highest paying jobs in the U.S. according to LinkedIn Salary. The diagnosis? Heart and foot doctors round out the list, along with other healthcare, tech, and legal jobs.

If another eight years of school isn’t on your bucket list, don’t worry. These jobs point to growing industries in the broader U.S. economy, meaning you don’t necessarily have to be a doctor or engineer to get paid well. While the healthcare industry is growing faster than nearly every other industry, technology skills are the most in-demand among employers, and legal occupations are needed across every industry.

The Apple Store at Saddle Creek Joins Our Mission

As part of our program, our recipients are asked to write a short essay or shoot a brief video (iPhone is ok) answering the question:

How will this suit help me in bettering my life and community?

To help them in this effort, our recipients are treated to a private workshop at the Apple Store at Saddle Creek to learn how to shoot and edit their Reflection video. Take a moment to watch just one example of a recipient that learned how to shoot and edit his video today and sent it to us with his sincere gratitude.

Our community partners are absolutely amazing and we are grateful to Apple for investing in our youth!

Here are just a few photos from our awesome morning together!

Success is a function of three vitally important things that create that much needed momentum: We have to understand where we’ve been, we have to know where we are going, and we should know what our current opportunities are.

Here, Alex Charfen shares his tips for clarifying success:

  • Focusing on your strengths
  • Staying in your sweet spot
  • Give it 90 days

Tennessee makes college free for adults over 24

It’s back to school in Tennessee, but not for the kids.

The state passed a bill that would fund two years of community college or technical school for “older adults” for free. The program is called Tennessee Reconnect, and it’s a last dollar program, which means that the state will cover all tuition and fees after grants and scholarships have been applied.

But who counts as “older adults?”

Luckily, almost everyone. The age requirement for an older adult is over 24 years old.

That’s because Tennessee Reconnect is meant to pick up where another program, Tennessee Promise, leaves off.

What to do instead of going to college (or after you’ve already gone)

What do you want the impact of your life to be? What type of uniquely meaningful work can… more

In my opinion, every aspiring entrepreneur needs their first big project. The project should not necessarily be a job. It’s best if the project is something that you choose, you design and you fund.

By deeply involving yourself in things that you really care about, you’ll start gaining real, experiential knowledge. This is the type of knowledge that you can’t get in a classroom, and is the sort of raw material that you can turn into an asset (a skill or product) that can eventually be sold.

To be clear, I'm not anti-college. I'm pro options.

Many of us aren’t even aware that there is another way to find work that you love other than browsing through a catalog of majors and sitting in a lecture hall. Even if you read this and still choose to go to college (or you’ve already gone), you should be actively looking to improve your life and intentionally develop yourself by undertaking challenging experiences that you’re deeply interested in.
